Biblical origin of the Daniel Fast
Daniel 1 — Daniel and his three friends refused the king's rich food and ate only vegetables and water for 10 days. They came out healthier than the meat-eaters. Daniel 10 — Daniel mourned for 21 days, eating no pleasant food, no meat, no wine. The modern Daniel Fast combines both passages.
